MRG is joining local government leaders in Long Beach this October for ICMA’s 112th Annual Conference, from October 17 to 21.
MRG’s Cathy Capriola, Jessica Deakyne and Julie Mares will be there representing the MRG team, connecting with colleagues, and plugging in to the latest insights in local government.
Connecting With the local government community
MRG has always been rooted in practitioner experience. Our consultants include former City Managers, department directors, HR leaders, elected officials, public safety executives, and other professionals who have spent their careers working in and alongside local government. ICMA provides a great opportunity to reconnect with that broader community.
We’re forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new colleagues, and hearing what public-sector leaders from around the country – and internationally – are working through in their own organizations. And, we’ll also contribute to the conference as presenters for the session “The Next Bench: Leadership Academies Shaping the Future of Public Service” about how cohort-based learning can transform leaders and regions.
Developing The Next Generation of Leaders
Cathy Capriola will moderate “The Next Bench: Leadership Academies Shaping the Future of Public Service.” She will be joined by Jessica Deakyne, Bonnie Svrcek of the Virginia Women’s Municipal Leadership Institute, and Julie Underwood, founder of the Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy.
The session will compare several leadership academy models, including the UpNext Leadership Community, and will discuss each program, selection processes, what participants learn, how the programs are funded, and how success is measured.
The goal is to help local government leaders think more clearly about how to develop future leaders, support succession planning, and create programs that keep helping people after the formal training ends.
This session will be held on October 19 from 3:45 to 4:45 pm at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. If you’re attending ICMA, don’t miss this session!
