Jamie Knox is a seasoned law enforcement executive with more than 30 years of experience helping organizations strengthen leadership, improve accountability, and navigate complex public safety challenges. He brings a proven ability to work with executives, governing bodies, and senior leadership teams to advance evidence-based decision-making, organizational learning, and modern government practices. Jamie’s professional passion centers on executive coaching, organizational assessments, workplace investigations, leadership development, and guiding agencies through periods of change with integrity, transparency, and trust.
Jamie is widely recognized for his ability to translate research and best practices into practical, real-world solutions that improve performance and community outcomes. His work emphasizes ethical leadership, equity, and building resilient organizations that support both employees and the communities they serve.
Throughout his career, Jamie has served in and led nearly every major function within a police organization. His background spans dispatch, patrol, investigations, special operations, and executive leadership. He has commanded a wide range of operational and administrative divisions and is recognized for leading complex organizations with integrity, accountability, and a strong focus on evidence-based practices.
Before joining the City of Walnut Creek as Chief of Police, Jamie served in various positions with the San Leandro, Novato and Rocklin Police Departments. Across these roles, he led organizational transformation efforts, modernized professional standards and training systems, oversaw accreditation programs, improved operational efficiency, guided capital and technology initiatives, and strengthened community trust through transparent, data-informed strategies.
Jamie has served as adjunct faculty at Notre Dame de Namur University, Sierra College, and the University of Phoenix, teaching courses in criminal justice, ethics, police theory, and restorative justice. He has contributed to the profession through state, regional, and national committee work, including service with the California Police Chiefs Association’s Evidence-Based Policing Committee, the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing, the Marin Emergency Radio Authority, and regional public safety interoperability initiatives. He has facilitated numerous training seminars on emotional intelligence, organizational branding, and conflict resolution.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management from Grand Canyon University and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from National University. Jamie is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and the Senior Management Institute for Policing (SMIP) through the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
