Lisa Achen is a passionate professional who enjoys working with local government agencies to achieve long-term and short-term goals. With strong facilitation and collaboration skills she is able to provide guidance across all levels of an organization. With over 30 years in Human Resources, Lisa is a leader with a strong emphasis in Interpersonal Effectiveness, Business Acumen, People Knowledge, Leadership, Organizational Knowledge, and Workplace Knowledge. She consistently drives projects forward to meet established deadlines, contributing to overall project success. 

Before affiliating with MRG, some of Lisa’s experience with public and private sectors include Assistant HR Director, HR Manager, Risk Manager, and Training and Development Manager for the City of Roseville where she was responsible for completing nationwide recruitments, conducting classification and compensation, benefits administration and payroll, and personnel actions, providing general oversight of the safety, liability, property, workers’ compensation and unemployment programs, and being responsible for the development and instruction of citywide courses, and comprehensive succession planning efforts. She has also worked at Baker Tilly as Interim HR Director and Senior Management Advisor where in addition being responsible for day-to-day operation of the City’s human resources she provided a broad range of human resources consultations to public sector clients including Hayward Area Recreation District, Sacramento Suburban Water District, and Northern California Power Agency. 

Lisa’s most recent endeavors were as an Instructor in the Business Department at Sierra College where she designed Human Resources Management coursework using Lussier/Hendon textbook and instructed in-person and online courses. Concurrently she was Human Resources Manager Clinical Trials Research, Inc., responsible for the  development human resources policies and practices for effective and legally defensible operation to a small privately owned organization. Before coming to MRG Lisa worked at Union City where she utilized her skills in project management and employee training to deliver trainings and promote the programs to executives, management and employee groups. She also handled project coordination for their transition from Tyler Eden to ERP HR/Payroll system and worked with the Tyler implementation team and City staff in the design and testing which led to a successful go-live.   

In addition to her significant field experience with major clients, Lisa received her Master of Public Policy and Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Management from California State University Sacramento and holds certificates from Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
